How to Make a Picture-in-Picture Recording in Record My

  1. Record Your Screen and Camera

Choose “Screen + Camera” in “Choose what to record”, switch on a camera under “Camera Overlay” and press “Start Recording”. Scenes appear in the editor whenever the recording has a camera.

  2. Find the “Scenes” Module

Press “Stop” and the editor opens. In the Studio panel, scroll to “Scenes”. Four layout cards wait there.

  3. Pick a Layout at the Playhead

Move the playhead to the moment you want, then click a card. “Pick a layout to switch to it at the playhead - the video morphs into it.”

  4. Set the Morph

Under “Morph in”, choose how long the change takes: “Cut”, “0.3 s”, “0.6 s”, “1.0 s” or “1.5 s”. A quick “Cut” feels snappy. “1.5 s” feels cinematic.

  5. Add More Scene Changes

Move the playhead further along and pick another layout. Each change appears as a segment on the scenes lane. Drag its handle to change when it starts.

  6. Play It Back and Export

Watch the preview. It shows exactly what you export. Then click “Export” and choose a format.

Four Layouts, One Click Each

Start with yourself full screen, morph to picture in picture for the demo, and finish side by side for the wrap-up. One recording, a story with real rhythm.

  • “Picture in Picture”: your screen fills the frame and your camera floats in a corner.
  • “Side by Side”: screen and camera share the frame, equal partners.
  • “Camera Full Screen”: you, front and center, for intros and big moments.
  • “Screen Only”: the camera steps away and your content takes the whole frame.

Fine-Tune on the Timeline

The scenes lane sits at the top of “SOURCES”, labelled with short titles such as “PiP”, “Side by Side”, “Camera” and “Screen”. Drag a handle to retime a change. Right-click a segment to switch its layout, or choose “Remove Scene Change”.

In the “Scenes” module, “Remove Change” and “Clear All” tidy up your scene changes. Changed your mind? The undo and redo buttons at the top-left of the preview cover scene edits too.

Questions

Why don’t I see “Scenes”?

“Scenes” appears when your recording has a camera. Record with “Screen + Camera” and the module is ready in the editor. Start with recording screen and webcam.

Can I make a side-by-side video for the whole recording?

Yes. Put the playhead at the start and pick “Side by Side”. With no other changes, the whole video stays in that layout.

Can I return to just my screen?

Yes. Move the playhead to that moment and pick “Screen Only”. Your content takes the whole frame, and you can bring the camera back later with another layout. Scenes are part of Record My Ultra.

You can do this with Record My on your Mac.
