Getting Started
Open Record My and click “Start Recording” (⌘R), or choose “Start Recording…” from the Record My item in the menu bar. In “Choose what to record”, click a tile: “Area”, “Window” and “Display” are included free, and the shapes, camera modes and “All Screens” come with Record My Ultra.
The first time you record your screen, macOS asks for Screen Recording permission. The camera and the microphone are asked for only when you use them. If Record My shows “Screen Recording Permission Needed”, choose “Open System Settings…”, allow Record My, then choose “Relaunch App”.
Cameras and Your iPhone
Cameras appear in the “Camera Overlay” list of the Screen + Camera setup window, and new ones join the list as you connect them. Your iPhone shows as “iPhone · main”, and its Desk View as “iPhone · Desk View (top-down)”. See using your iPhone as the camera.
Where Your Recordings Are
Every recording appears in the main window under “RECENT RECORDINGS”. Click one to reopen it in the editor, and use “Save Video” to put a copy in a folder you choose. Deleting from the library is permanent, so save a copy of anything important first. See finding and organizing your recordings.
Exporting and Projects
In the editor, “Export” lists “ProRes 4444”, “HEVC + alpha”, “Animated GIF” and “PNG sequence” under “With transparency”, and “MP4 (H.264)” under “Opaque”. To keep the sound in an exported video, keep “Speed” at “1×”. “Save Project” keeps every edit in a .rmy project that you reopen with “Open Project…” (⌘O); keep its recording in your library while you work on it.
Record My Ultra
Restore a purchase with “Restore Purchases” in the Help menu or in Settings. Manage or cancel a subscription with “Manage Subscription…” or in your App Store account settings. Purchases, renewals and refunds are handled by Apple. See Free and Ultra.
Questions
Why is a mode tile dimmed with an “ULTRA” tag?
That mode is part of Record My Ultra. Click it to see the options, or choose Help › “Record My Ultra…”.
Why is “All Screens” not available?
“All Screens” records several displays at once, so it lights up when more than one display is connected; with one display the tile reads “One display connected”.
My exported video has no sound. What do I do?
Set “Speed” in the “Output” module to “1×” and export again; the sound is kept at normal speed. Also check that “Sound” was set to “Mic”, “System” or “Both” when you recorded.
Can I undo a change in the editor?
Use the undo and redo buttons at the top left of the preview for your annotations and your camera, scene and layout changes. Trim and the “Output” settings are simply set back by hand.
How do I see the welcome tour again?
Choose Help › “Replay Onboarding”, or open Settings (⌘,) and choose “Replay Onboarding”.
Does Record My collect my data?
No. There are no accounts and no tracking, and your recordings stay on your Mac. Read the Privacy Policy.
The Terms of Use, Privacy Policy and Acceptable Use Policy apply to the app.
