How to Record Your Screen With Audio in Record My
Open the Mode Picker
Click “Start Recording” in the main window (⌘R) or choose “Start Recording…” from the menu bar to open “Choose what to record”.
Choose Your Sound
In the options bar, under “SOUND”, pick “Mic” for your voice, “System” for your Mac’s sound, “Both” for the two together, or “Off” for a silent video.
Allow the Microphone Once
macOS asks for microphone permission the first time. Allow it once and your voice is ready for every take.
Pick What to Record
Click “Area”, “Window” or “Display” and recording starts with your sound. For Screen + Camera, choose under “Sound” in the setup window’s “Recording” section.
Stop and Listen Back
Click “Stop” to open the Motion Editor. Your sound appears as a waveform in the “AUDIO” lane, and the mute button at the top-right of the preview silences playback while you work.
Save With Sound
Click “Save Video” to keep the original recording, sound and all, as a .mov.
Four Sound Choices
In a Screen + Camera session, the sound is recorded with the screen, so your narration and your camera stay together in one take.
- “Off”: a silent recording.
- “Mic”: your voice, from the microphone your Mac currently uses.
- “System”: the sound your Mac plays, such as an app or a video.
- “Both”: your voice and your Mac’s sound together, ideal for narrating a demo.
Keep Your Sound When You Export
With Record My Ultra, “Export” turns your take into “MP4 (H.264)”, “ProRes 4444” and more. To keep sound in an exported video, keep “Speed” at “1×” in the “Output” module. See exporting to MP4.
“Save Video” is included in the free download and keeps the original recording with its sound.
