How to Blur or Remove Your Webcam Background in Record My
Record With Your Camera
Click “Start Recording” and choose “Screen + Camera” or “Camera” in “Choose what to record”. Set up your shot, as in recording screen and webcam, and press “Start Recording”. Record just as you are. The background comes later.
Select Your Camera in the Editor
Press “Stop” and the editor opens. Click your camera on the video, its lane on the timeline, or its card in “Sources”. The camera modules appear in the Studio panel.
Open “Behind You”
Scroll to the “Behind You” module. It starts on “Original”, the room exactly as it was recorded.
Choose a Background
Pick “Blur” and set the strength with the slider. Pick “Remove” for just you, cut out. Or pick “Color” and tap one of six swatches, or “Gradient” for a warm red-to-ember wash.
Check the Preview and Export
Play the clip. What you see in the preview is what you export. Click “Export” and choose a format, or keep working and save a project.
Five Looks for the Space Behind You
“Behind You” changes the room, not you. Each choice applies to the camera you selected, so two cameras can each have their own look.
- “Original”: the room as you recorded it.
- “Blur”: a soft, out-of-focus room, as subtle or strong as you like.
- “Remove”: “Just you, cut out - the room becomes transparent and the shadow follows your outline.”
- “Color”: a clean, solid backdrop from six swatches, from deep charcoal and white to blue, green, red and orange.
- “Gradient”: the warm red-to-ember gradient, for a polished, branded feel.
It Happens in the Editor, on Your Mac
You record first and decide later. That means you can try every look on the same take, switch back to “Original” at any moment, and never re-record because the room was messy.
Every effect is created right on your Mac. Your camera footage stays with you.
With “Remove”, you float over your screen recording. For a cut-out with see-through edges on its own, export to a format under “With transparency”, such as “ProRes 4444” or “HEVC + alpha”. See transparent exports for more.
Questions
Do I need a green screen?
No. Choose “Remove” in “Behind You” and Record My cuts you out of the room on its own, with a shadow that follows your outline. A plain wall helps, but any room works.
Can I see the effect while I record?
You set the background after recording. The live camera bubble shows your camera as it is, so you can focus on your take. Then pick a look in the editor, where the preview shows exactly what you export.
Can I change my mind later?
Yes. Select your camera and pick another choice in “Behind You” at any time, including “Original”. Save a project with “Save Project” to come back to it another day. Background effects are part of Record My Ultra.
You can do this with Record My on your Mac.
