How to Export a Transparent Recording in Record My
Choose a Shape
Click “Start Recording” and pick “Ellipse”, “Rounded” or “Lasso” in “Choose what to record”.
Draw It on Screen
Drag an oval or a soft-corner area, or trace a free-hand outline with “Lasso”. Recording starts right after your selection.
Stop and Review
Click “Stop” on the recording bar. The Motion Editor opens, and the export bar reminds you that transparent formats keep the area outside the shape clear.
Pick a Transparent Format
Click “Export” and choose from “With transparency”: “ProRes 4444”, “HEVC + alpha”, “Animated GIF” or “PNG sequence”.
Place It Anywhere
Choose a folder in the save panel. Drop the file into your video editor, slides or website, and your shape floats over whatever sits behind it.
Which Transparent Format?
All four keep your edges see-through. Choose by where the file is going.
- “ProRes 4444”: full quality, made for your video editor.
- “HEVC + alpha”: HEVC with transparency in a compact file.
- “Animated GIF”: a light loop for pages and docs. See making a GIF.
- “PNG sequence”: a folder of frames, one image for every frame.
Cut Yourself Out
Recording with your camera? In the editor, select your camera and choose “Remove” in “Behind You”. The room disappears, and you appear cut out over your screen, processed right on your Mac. More in changing your webcam background.
Solid Frames, Too
When you want a classic rectangular video, “MP4 (H.264)” plays almost anywhere, and “Save Video” keeps the original .mov. For see-through edges, choose a format under “With transparency”.
Questions
Which format should I pick for my video editor?
“ProRes 4444” keeps full quality. “HEVC + alpha” gives you a more compact file. Both keep the area outside your shape clear.
Can I draw my own shape?
Yes. “Lasso” lets you trace a free-hand outline around anything on screen. See recording in a shape.
Is the shape kept when I click “Save Video”?
“Save Video” saves the original rectangular recording as a .mov, included in the free download. For your shape with see-through edges, use “Export” and a format under “With transparency”.
You can do this with Record My on your Mac.
