How to Save a Recording as an MP4 in Record My
Open Your Recording
Click “Stop” when you finish recording, or click a row under “RECENT RECORDINGS” in the main window. It opens in the Motion Editor.
Make Your Edits
Trim, annotate or reframe as you like. Every change you see in the preview goes into the MP4. See trimming and editing.
Set the Size
In the “Output” module, choose a “Resolution” from “Auto” to “4K” and a “Scale”. The “Result” module shows the final pixels and duration.
Keep the Sound
Leave “Speed” at “1×” to keep your voice and your Mac’s sound in the file.
Export
Click “Export”, then “MP4 (H.264)”. Choose a folder in the save panel, and “Video saved” tells you it’s ready.
“Save Video” Or “Export”?
Both put the file exactly where you choose, ready for your video editor, slides or website. Pick the one that fits the moment.
- “Save Video”: the original recording as a .mov, unedited and lossless. Included in the free download.
- “Export” › “MP4 (H.264)”: your edited video, with trim, annotations, portrait framing and your “Output” settings. Part of Record My Ultra.
Shapes and Portrait
“MP4 (H.264)” gives you a solid frame that plays almost anywhere. For see-through edges around an “Ellipse”, “Rounded” or “Lasso” shape, choose a format under “With transparency”. See transparent recordings.
Posting to TikTok, Reels or Shorts? Choose “Portrait 9:16” in “Format” before you export, as shown in vertical video.
Questions
Is saving my recording free?
Yes. Recording your screen and saving it is free: “Save Video” keeps the original as a .mov. Edited exports, including MP4, are part of Record My Ultra. See Free and Ultra.
Where does my MP4 go?
Wherever you choose. The save panel lets you pick a folder each time you export, and your recording also stays in the library under “RECENT RECORDINGS”.
How do I keep the sound in my MP4?
Keep “Speed” at “1×” in the “Output” module, and your voice and your Mac’s sound come along in the export.
You can do this with Record My on your Mac.
