How to Add Arrows, Highlights and Text in Record My

  1. Open the Recording in the Editor

Press “Stop” to open the editor, or click a recording under “RECENT RECORDINGS”. Move the playhead to the moment you want to explain.

  2. Pick a Tool

The tool palette sits at the bottom-right of the preview. Choose “Arrow”, “Highlight”, “Text”, “Numbered Step” or any of the 17 tools. Set the color and width beside it.

  3. Draw on the Video

Drag on the preview to place it. For text, type and style it with bold, italic, underline or strikethrough.

  4. Time It on Its Lane

Each annotation appears on its own lane under “ANNOTATIONS”, timed from the playhead to the end. Drag the lane to move it, or drag its ends to resize it.

  5. Fine-Tune With the Lane Menu

Right-click a lane for “Jump to Start”, “Start at Playhead”, “End at Playhead”, “Show for Entire Clip”, “Duplicate” and “Remove”.

  6. Export

Play it back, then click “Export” and choose a format. Your annotations are part of the video.

17 Tools in Five Groups

Use “Numbered Step” to walk viewers through a process, “Spotlight” to draw the eye to the detail that matters, and “Magnifier” to bring small text or a tiny button closer.

  • Draw: “Arrow”, “Line”, “Pen”, “Highlight”.
  • Shape: “Rectangle”, “Rounded Rectangle”, “Ellipse”, “Callout”.
  • Annotate: “Text”, “Text Box”, “Numbered Step”, “Dimension”.
  • Focus: “Spotlight”, “Magnifier”.
  • Redact: “Blur”, “Pixelate”, “Blackout”.

Keep Private Details Private

The Redact group covers what viewers shouldn’t see. Draw “Blur”, “Pixelate” or “Blackout” over an email address, a name or a number, then set its lane to match exactly when it is on screen. Choose “Show for Entire Clip” to cover it from start to finish.

Changed your mind? The undo and redo buttons at the top-left of the preview cover annotations. To remove one, select it and use the delete button beside the palette.
