  1. Set Up Your Shot

Pick “Screen + Camera”, switch on your camera and drag it into place in the live “Preview”. More in recording your screen and webcam.

  2. Choose Your Sound

Set “Sound” to “Mic” for your voice, or “Both” to add your Mac’s sound. See recording audio.

  3. Record

Click “Start Recording” and talk it through. Move or hide the camera bubble as you go, and every change becomes an edit.

  4. Recover From Slips

Recording just your screen? The recording bar removes the last 5 seconds or starts a retake. See fixing mistakes.

  5. Trim the Edges

Click “Stop”, then drag the filmstrip handles to tighten the start and end. See trimming and editing.

  6. Switch Scenes and Point Things Out

Morph between “Picture in Picture” and “Screen Only” with scenes, and guide the eye with annotations.

  7. Export

Click “Export” › “MP4 (H.264)” for a video that plays almost anywhere. See saving as an MP4.

Plan a Tutorial People Finish

Keep each video to one task. Open on the result, then show the steps. Short, focused videos are easier to follow and easier to update.

Look Polished on Camera

Select your camera in the editor to shape it in “Look”, then change the room in “Behind You”: blur it, remove it, or add a color or gradient. More in changing your webcam background.

In “Visibility”, “Fade” or “Step Aside” moves your camera out of the way of your pointer and your annotations.

Share It Anywhere

Export once, then drop the file into your video editor, slides or website. Making a short for social? “Portrait 9:16” in the “Format” module reframes it in a click.

Questions

Can I record a tutorial without my camera?

Yes. Choose “Display”, “Window” or “Area”, included in the free download, and save it with “Save Video”. These recordings also get the full recording bar, with pause, “Remove the last 5 seconds” and retake.

Which microphone does Record My use?

“Mic” records the microphone your Mac currently uses. macOS asks for permission the first time.

Can I come back to my edits later?

Yes. With Record My Ultra, “Save Project” (⌘S) keeps every edit, and “Open Project…” (⌘O) brings it back, ready to continue.

You can do this with Record My on your Mac.
