How to Pause and Fix Mistakes in Record My
Start a Screen Recording
Click “Start Recording” (⌘R) and choose “Area”, “Window” or “Display”. The recording bar floats at the top of your screen with “REC” and the timer.
Pause When You Need a Moment
Click pause and the bar reads “PAUSED”. Click resume to pick up exactly where you left off.
Remove the Last 5 Seconds
Stumbled over a word? Click “Remove the last 5 seconds” and confirm with “Remove”. The bar shows “Removed 5 s · paused” and waits until you resume.
Retake From Scratch
Click “Retake - discard and start over” and confirm with “Retake” to clear the take and begin again.
Stop and Save
Click “Stop” to open your take in the Motion Editor, then click “Save Video” to keep the original as a .mov.
Every Recovery Waits for You
Remove, retake and discard each ask first, and your take waits paused while you decide. Click “Cancel” and recording carries on as before.
After a removal, the take stays paused, so you can gather your thoughts and resume exactly when you’re ready. No rush, no dead air.

What happens when I click ✕?
The bar asks “Discard this recording?” first, and your take waits paused. Click “Discard” to let it go, or “Cancel” to keep recording.
